Demolishing historic buildings in Downtown El Paso
Last year, demolition crews took down two downtown buildings by revered architect Henry Trost. This year, the pace has picked up, with five historic downtown buildings leveled last month, after protesters from the Texas Trost Society and historic preservation groups couldn’t stop the wrecking ball. On the other hand, some people say they are less interested in the loss of El Paso’s architectural history and unique character and more interested in more parking spaces. Time will tell, but no matter what replaces them, these vintage buildings are still gone, gone, gone, along with a big piece of our past.
