When I think about what this town would be like without Paul Foster, a dark cloud settles on my brain. It hurts too much to imagine. He may have grown up in Lovington, N.M., and attended college in Waco, but he has made El Paso his home, and we are all the better for it. Forbes puts him at 1287th on their list of the wealthiest billionaires on the planet, so, okay, we get it – the guy has resources. Yet he chooses to share his success with us, including giving $50 million to our medical school, $6 million to UTEP and millions to a huge variety of local causes. He’s been a key player in restoring downtown properties and creating The Fountains at Farah. This year, he helped give us the unprecedented gift of fun and pride: Triple A baseball. His generosity and vision make him a true local hero.
