The Hoppy Monk
A recent headline from satirical newspaper The Onion reads, “Insufferable Man Utters Words ‘Craft Beer Movement.’” Har Har, Onion writers. While it’s true that some craft beer enthusiasts can be pretentious, there’s no denying the movement. El Paso now has its own dedicated festival, and local bars rush to add rarefied brews. Setting the pace is The Hoppy Monk, a Westside bar offering 70 draft beers, 167 bottled beers and cool promotions like beer dinners, brewer visits and special nights. (We recommend Tuesdays’ Logo Pint Nite, where you buy a featured beer and get a free glass bearing its logo.) Their methods are working: This is the Monk’s third consecutive win, and a second location is slated to open in San Antonio. How’s that for movement? 4141 N. Mesa St., 915-307-3263; thehoppymonk.com.
