With only a handful of Thai restaurants in our region, it’s easy to see why Thai Grub has become many El Pasoans’ favorite food truck. Thai cuisine is highly sought after in the Sun City and this food truck makes it easy to find by consistently posting on its social media outlets. No need to feel overwhelmed; this truck has pictures of their menu posted on their window and offers a take-away paper menu that thoroughly explains their entrees.
All entrees are made to order and come with your choice of chicken or shrimp, but shrimp does have an upcharge. Dishes can be ordered as regular, mild, spicy or Thai spicy, but the Thai spicy level didn’t seem to pack on too much heat. Pad Thai is a go-to dish for any Thai restaurant, and they manage to deliver hearty portions of rice noodles with egg, bean sprouts and scallions complemented with crushed peanuts and lime wedges. Red curry stir fry is a customer favorite with a balanced soupy mix of spicy, slightly sweetened red chili-coconut sauce with sautéed shredded carrots, onions, bell peppers and bamboo shoots served with steamed white rice. Other options include Thai lo mein noodles tossed in a garlicky brown sauce and drunken noodles (phad khe mao), which are rice noodles sautéed with bell peppers, bean sprouts, onions and jalapenos. The cashew stir-fry and fried rice dishes are other favorites. Unfortunately for vegetarians, all sauces consist of a fish ingredient, but will certainly appease anyone without a dietary constraint.
Sodas and water will help wash down the heat, but their creamy Thai iced tea is where it’s at. Plentiful portions, friendly service and a menu that occasionally rotates (fresh spring rolls!) will move this truck to the top of your list of must-try food trucks.
