Many Asian restaurants dot Mesa street, but word-of-mouth had us visiting the year-old Sun Garden Bistro. Located in the corner of the same strip mall as Savers, their sign is hard to miss, but it’s a location that’s easy to pass by. This impeccably clean restaurant serves authentic Cantonese dishes made by Chef Mike Wu, who was trained in China.
During the week, Sun Garden is bustling with customers taking advantage of $6.95 lunch specials that come with a hearty entrée portion, rice and egg flower or hot and sour soup. There are 20 entrées to choose from, and other soups on the menu include wonton, veggie tofu, chicken corn, seafood and cilantro beef egg white.
A variety of wings, avocado rolls, fried calamari and shrimp, vegetable tempura, Peking style dumplings, green onion pancakes and more are available as appetizers. The menu is divided into offerings from the garden, sky, land, sea, noodles and rice and authentic Chinese selections by the chef. Each menu section has a minimum of 11 options that will be both familiar and new to diners. Some of Chef Mike’s specials include roasted duck, Chinese flat noodle in curry sauce, honey BBQ pork ribs and seasonal items of steamed whole fish or lobster with ginger and scallions.
Fresh ingredients, generous portions and plenty of flavorful options will make this your go-to dine-in and takeout spot if you’re lucky enough to live in the area.
