Luchador is where Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) meets Lucha Libre (Mexican wrestling), and your inner paleta-eating child meets your Margarita-drinking adult self. You’re met by an explosion of colors, lucha figurines hanging above the hostess station, and a ton of televisions. Booths with their own small televisions line one black wall with two large calavera (skulls) murals. Fear not – your senses will not be overloaded, it all cohesively blends.
The menu is a tribute to Juarez street food with the standards like elote, street tacos, bacon-wrapped hot dogs, and burgers with weenies. The elote is corn on the cob covered in butter, chili powder, queso fresco, and cilantro. More substantial appetizers include nachos, bacon-wrapped spicy jalapenos stuffed with cream cheese, and guacamole with cottage cheese (don’t worry, it’s more delicious than it sounds).
The taqueria part of the menu offers 10 varieties of tacos, but gone are the duck and rattlesnake tacos initially offered. Each plate comes with three tacos served on pink tortillas with white rice and charro beans. The most popular are al pastor (pork) marinated in pineapple chili sauce, carne asada, and Corona-battered cod topped with cilantro lime slaw, drizzled with chipotle tartar sauce. Korean BBQ tacos and Chico’s inspired flautas are also available.
Drinks range from aguas frescas to domestic and Mexican beers (canned & bottled only) to dozens of Margaritas. Classic Margaritas and red beer setups are offered, but you can order over the top TMNT-ritas or Panther-ritas, as in a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle or Pink Panther paleta in your Margarita. Other add-ins include Coronitas, Jarritos soda, bolis (Mexican ice pops), or chamoy style.
Visit them daily for specials like $1 tacos on Tuesdays and half off appetizers on Wednesdays, as well as $5 lunch.
