Starting out in Zacatecas, Mexico, the Garufa Argentinean food franchise has grown from a small family business into a successful 12-location venture. With eleven eateries throughout Mexico under their belt, Garufa's first U.S. restaurant opened in West El Paso.
"The restaurant was born in 1985 and has continued to grow since," said local manager Sam Breceda. "With increasing violence in Mexico, though, our first U.S. location was opened a year and a half ago."
Specialties at Garufa range from an array of empanada selections with fillings like gound beef, ham and cheese or even shrimp to prime cuts of meat and fresh fish cooked on a charcoal grill. Empanadas are under $4 each and entrees range $10-$45.
