Doniphan is a long road that extends into Canutillo where a new business can easily get overlooked, but the power of social media and a cinderblock building painted black with lime green trim has made JD’s Burgers stand out.
You’ll have to make your way through a cramped maze of tables and chairs in this tiny space to order at the counter. We suggest grabbing a menu and finding a seat, or you can sit and peruse the colorful chalkboard menu. Unless you’re picky, it’s going to take awhile to decide between twenty burger topping combinations, in addition to turkey, chicken, fish, fried steak and philly sandwiches. The appetizer section is a deep-fried smorgasbord of pickles, mozzarella sticks, onion rings, stuffed jalapenos, tater tots, curly fries, sweet potato fries and chili cheese fries.
It’d be nice to create your own burger, but that’s not necessary when blue cheese, bacon and grilled onions is already an option. Spicier creations like the Habanero (habanero peppers, grilled mushrooms and onions) and the messy Chipotle Cheeseburger have already become customer favorites. A fresh, homemade patty is topped with grilled onions, mushroom, red and green peppers, chipotle sauce and American and Swiss cheese. Tamer selections range from Guacamole to Hawaiian (pineapple, ham, Swiss) and Pizza (grilled onions, Swiss, marinara) cheeseburgers.
All burgers are served on a buttery, toasted bun with mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and onions. Vegetarians won’t be limited to their salad options, because they also offer a veggie patty. Burgers and sandwiches all come with a canned beverage and fries. Decadence is king here, and if you’re up for a challenge they’ll make you a seven meat JD’s burger. If you need something sweet, grab a slice of cheesecake or apple pie.
Loaded burgers and an extensive, affordable menu makes this tiny, new spot worth the gamble.
