Last week was quite eventful for El Paso in terms of unconventional election-driven events. On Oct. 11, the voter registration cutoff date in Texas and many other states, rap-rock supergroup Prophets of Rage had a strong message for its audience. (Their tour was branded “Make America Rage Again,” after all.) Towards the end of the concert, guitarist Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine warned attendees, saying, “The world’s not going to change itself. That is up to you.”

That following Friday, Oct. 14, Green Party presidential candidate Jill Stein visited El Paso’s packed Cafe Mayapan to talk about issues such as the Trans-Pacific Parnership, student loan debt, the country’s military expenses and immigration. What was especially noticeable was the large amount of young faces in the crowd, and many of them were also Bernie Sanders supporters. We live streamed her entire speech and the Q&A session that followed, which you can find on our Facebook page.
For this week’s election-based question, we took into consideration how unhappy many (if not most) people are with our presidential candidates. In turn, we asked people who they prefer to have for president. This included attendees of Chalk the Block, the El Paso Chopin Music Festival and the Halloween night market at TI:ME at Montecillo. No two people had the same answer, so I hope you enjoy reading what each person had to say.
