Now in its ninth year, the Plaza Classic Film Festival has been a film buff’s dream. Thanks to the El Paso Community Foundation, the two-week fest brings to the historic Plaza Theatre a mixture of iconic staples, foreign films, local movies and enough selections to satiate most Sci-Fi and horror fans.
The festival’s support for local talent doesn’t end at the Local Flavor showcases or the local short film segment, The Good, The Bad and The Indie, however. For the past several years, El Paso musicians have opened for some of the festival’s outdoor film screenings, setting the mood for movies such as “Purple Rain,” “This Is Spinal Tap” and “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” a fan favorite that plays every year.
What’s Up reached out to the four bands opening for this year’s free outdoor series to talk music and movies.
